| Cindy Rotblat Named FCF Executive Director - Wednesday, June 25, 2008The Freeport Community Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Cindy Rotblat as their new Executive Director. The former Executive Director, Melanie Miller Mitchard, is retiring.
Rotblat comes to the foundation with experience in marketing, fundraising and grant writing. She created the NIE ‘Student Voices’ page while at The Journal-Standard and recently left the United Sportsmen’s Youth Foundation (USYF) where she assisted them with fundraising, PR and grant writing.
Rotblat has been an active member in a number of organizations including Stephenson County’s Relay for Life, Freeport Beautification Association, Children’s Home and Aid Society and PEO - LI. She was a past recipient of the Jaycee’s ‘Outstanding Woman of the Year’ Award.
“Cindy brings both passion and enthusiasm along with a skill set which will serve the organization very well,” said Cheryl Kneubuehl, Board Chair. “The board is confident of her ability to help the Freeport Community Foundation become recognized as an outstanding vehicle for both individuals and other organizations to create permanent funds for both present and future grants benefiting our community.”

| FREEPORT COMMUNITY FOUNDATION Awards Grant to local non-profit - Tuesday, June 17, 2008FREEPORT, IL. - The Freeport Community Foundation Board of Directors is pleased to announce they have recently awarded $1115.37 from the Bocker Children’s Fund to Malcolm Eaton Enterprises. The grant will support the program, Xtreme Xpeditions Summer Camp 2008. Xtreme Xpeditions is a unique approach to providing activities during the summer to older children with disabilities that have aged out of center-based childcare. The Freeport Community Foundation and the Bocker Auto Group are proud to be supporters of program. |

| FCF Grants $165,300 to the Community in 2007 - Thursday, January 31, 2008FREEPORT, IL. – 2007 was a busy year for the Freeport Community Foundation. The Board of Directors awarded 45 grants to 40 local non-profit organizations granting out a total of $165,300. 68 grant proposals were submitted in 2007 Grants awarded provided support to a wide variety of programs, special projects, and initiatives that serve Freeport and surrounding communities.
4th quarter grants totaling $61,100.00 to fourteen organizations were recently awarded. Grants were awarded from two Foundation Funds, the Community Needs Fund and the Matthew A. Marvin Fund.
$42,100 was awarded from the Matthew A. Marvin Fund to the following organizations;
- FHN Family Counseling Center-$1,500.00 to the Big Brothers Big Sisters for their in-school mentoring program at the Stockton Middle School.
- Freeport Public School Fund-$2,500.00 for Freeport Junior High School Science Team 7B for a special project-based learning initiative.
- Freeport Public School Fund-$2,500.00-C.H.O.I.C.E.S.-Choosing Healthy Options In Careers, Education and Society.
- Habitat for Humanity of Freeport, IL-$5,000.00-to purchase property for next Habitat house in Freeport.
- Boys and Girls Club of Freeport & Stephenson Co.-$25,000.00 for start-up funds and grant will also be matched.
- Stephenson Co. 4-H & Extension Foundation-$600.00-Environmental education to approximately 700 grade school children
- St. Mary's Church-$2,000 towards the renovation of the gymnasium for use by parish, neighborhood and community.
- Youth Becoming Leaders-$3,000.00-start up funds for the Imagine Me Center for local at-risk youth.
$19,000 was awarded from the Community Needs Fund to the following organizations;
- Lincoln-Douglas Society-$5,000.00 for start-up funds to be used by the Freeport Commission that is planning events for the Lincoln-Douglas Debate Sesquicentennial celebration to be held Labor Day weekend, 2008. .
- Freeport Downtown Development Foundation-$1,500.00 for beautification efforts along Exchange and Van Buren streets.
- Lincoln-Douglas Society-$5,000.00 for installation of interpretative signs at Debate Square.
- New Horizon's Counseling Center-$2,000.00 for start-up funds for the Partner Abuse Intervention Program.
- RAMP, Inc.-$2,500.00 for marketing the Soundscapes program that provides assistive listening devices for individuals who are hearing, blind or speech disabled.
- Stephenson Co. State's Attorney's Office-$3,000.00 to provide recording devices to be used by the Victim Assistance Program.
The Freeport Community Foundation has a 33 year history as a community-based charitable organization guided by community leaders that are dedicated to providing financial solutions for current and future community needs. Non-profit organizations in Freeport and the surrounding communities may submit a grant application to the Freeport Community Foundation for specific projects or initiatives. Grants are awarded four times a year. The next cycle of grant proposals will be due on Monday, March 3, 2008.
