In 1975, a group of local forward-thinking citizens in Freeport, Illinois wanted to ensure a permanent source of funds for local charitable organizations. This organization is now known as the Freeport Community Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to help provide for the well-being of the citizens of northwest Illinois by accumulating assets in the form of permanent funds and prudently distributing income from those funds to charitable organizations. The Foundation belongs to the community. It is like a “community savings account” for people to give back to the community in which they lived, worked and raised their families. It serves its donors, nonprofit organizations and institutions and the community as a whole.  Thousands of lives have been helped through the organizations who have received grants to implement their programs and initiatives.
